Neighbours reported hearing gunshots on 16 July, later learning that eight geese had been killed by hired marksmen due to the volume of faeces on club grounds. The club stated the culling followed 'many months' of unsuccessful non-lethal attempts to manage the growing goose population, citing health and safety concerns from droppings, including bacteria like E. coli. Club members and locals, who adored the geese, were initially told the birds had been rehomed, leading to widespread anger and claims of deceit. Chief executive Miles Hill confirmed the decision was not taken lightly and that the geese were 'humanely dispatched' with Surrey Police notified in advance, after relocation efforts proved unfeasible.
