International Relations and Co-operation Minister Ronald Lamola says regional leaders will discuss infrastructure, food security, critical minerals, peace and security across Southern Africa when they gather in Durban for a SADC Summit later this month.
South Africa is preparing to host the 46th Ordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government in Durban, where regional leaders are expected to consider decisions aimed at accelerating industrialisation, strengthening infrastructure development, improving food security and advancing regional integration.
The summit will take place at Durban's International Convention Centre on Monday, August 17, 2026 and will see President Cyril Ramaphosa formally assume the SADC Chairpersonship for the 2026/27 term.
South Africa is hosting the summit after serving as interim chair of SADC following developments after the 45th Ordinary Summit held in Madagascar.
SADC is a regional organisation made up of 16 member states: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
