The country’s Department of Energy says its ninth green energy auction will focus on integrating solar with agriculture and aquaculture activities. The department has also announced plans for an auction targeting off-grid renewables deployment across 20 selected islands.
The government of the Philippines is preparing a new procurement exercise under its flagship green energy auction (GEA) program that will specifically target agrisolar and projects integrated with aquaculture, referred to by the government as aquasolar.
The country’s Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Agriculture have reviewed a draft memorandum of understanding for the auction, which is scheduled to be the 9th (GEA-9) under the program.
A statement published by DOE says agrisolar and aquasolar installations can optimize abandoned, underdeveloped and underutilized land and water resources while supporting food security and rural livelihoods.
“By integrating renewable energy with agriculture and aquaculture, GEA-9 aims to enable innovative projects that deliver clean power alongside sustainable farming and fishing,” the department’s statement adds.
