Beijing is probing products sold in China by U.S. technology company Palo Alto Networks, a day after Chinese authorities announced a flurry of countermeasures against recent U.S. restrictions.
The Cyberspace Administration of China, the country's top cyber watchdog, announced Thursday a formal security review into California-headquartered Palo Alto Networks.
The regulator said the move is to ensure the safe and stable operation of critical information infrastructure, prevent cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities, and safeguard national security. It cited China's national security and cybersecurity laws for the action, without further elaboration.
According to its website, Palo Alto Networks has several offices in China, operating in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
