Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) warned that reductions in federal research funding under the Trump administration could weaken America’s position as a global innovation leader and allow rivals to gain ground in critical technologies such as artificial intelligence.
Schiff Warns US Tech Leadership Is at Risk
On Wednesday, Schiff criticized the Donald Trump administration’s approach to scientific research funding, saying reduced support for research could weaken America’s position as a global innovation leader.
"The United States is the world’s leader in science and innovation, a role we’ve played for more than a century," he said.
He added, "The Trump administration’s endless attacks on research funding put that position of preeminence at risk."
