The Commissioner of Police for Osun governorship election, Samuel Etaifo, says 15,000 police officers would be deployed for the 15 August governorship election.

Mr Etaifo said this at a news conference in Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday.

He said a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) and an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of election operations were also expected in the state for the election.

He also said that he was deployed to Osun State two weeks before the election because he was the most junior of the senior election officers assigned to oversee the poll.

He revealed that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had visited the state weeks earlier to assess the security situation and observed the political tension.
