Facebook parent Meta Platforms has launched a beta test of its first AI coding agent, Muse Code, as it tries to attain a place in the intensely competitive field dominated by Anthropic and OpenAI.
The product is a fresh effort to bring in revenues from Meta’s heavy spending on AI infrastructure, which have seen its free cash flow plunge over the past year.
The release of Muse Code and Meta’s latest AI model, Muse Spark 1.2, was overseen by Meta’s AI chief Alexandr Wang, who joined the company in June of last year when Meta acquired AI start-up Scale for $14.3 billion (£10.6bn).

Muse Code can take on software engineering tasks across a wide variety of use cases, including writing code and validating the results, Wang said.
