Before joining Google, he was a researcher at Digital Equipment Corporation’s Systems Research Centre.During his time at Google, Ghemawat co-authored several influential research papers on large-scale computing systems. He was a co-author of the Google File System (GFS) paper published in 2003, which described the distributed file system designed to support Google’s large-scale processing needs.He also co-authored the 2004 paper on MapReduce, a programming model for processing and generating large datasets across clusters of computers. The system became one of Google’s core technologies for large-scale data processing.Ghemawat was also a co-author of the Bigtable paper in 2006, which outlined Google’s distributed storage system to manage structured data.
