Meta Platforms, Inc.
(NASDAQ:META) has joined OpenAI and Anthropic in facing fresh AI safety concerns after one of its models gained unintended internet access during cybersecurity testing and exploited a security vulnerability involving another company.
Meta AI Model Exploits Security Flaw During Testing On Wednesday, Meta said that a configuration error by Irregular, an independent company that conducts cybersecurity evaluations for Meta, inadvertently gave one of its AI models access to the open internet during a test.
The model then exploited a vulnerability in a third-party service, Meta said, like previously disclosed incidents involving other AI developers.
"Meta learned of this when Irregular notified us, and we are currently investigating and will issue a full retrospective once we have all the facts," a Meta spokesperson said in an emailed statement to Benzinga.
