Shares of technology companies fell amid more jitters in artificial-intelligence wagers.

Advanced Micro Devices fell despite reporting brisk growth in chip sales to data centers, amid concerns that it was losing ground on its main competitor.

Shares of AMD rival Nvidia rallied after SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk said the AI chip maker would likely be his company's preferred supplier.

Shares of Musk's AI and rocketry firm fell sharply as aggressive capital-expenditure budget overshadowed better-than-anticipated quarterly revenue growth.

"SpaceX spent too much money, but the demand was there," said JJ Kinahan, senior vice president at CBOE Global. "The worries on the [AI] demand curve have been alleviated quite a bit."
