The European Leagues have criticised FIFA over a series of unilateral decisions that allegedly threaten the future of global football governance, insisting that the world football governing body must undertake sweeping reforms before introducing new competitions or expanding existing tournaments.
In a statement on Wednesday, the European Leagues welcomed FIFA President Gianni Infantino's decision to abandon the controversial FIFA Football Events (FFE) proposal, which would have involved selling stakes in FIFA's commercial and event-related activities.
According to the organisation, the withdrawal of the proposal was "the only logical outcome" following widespread opposition from across the football community.
However, it argued that the overwhelming rejection of the initiative, coupled with what it described as an opaque decision-making process, exposed deeper concerns about FIFA's governance, internal culture and leadership.
The statement read, "The FIFA President's decision to abandon his ill-conceived FFE proposal that would have sold stakes in FIFA's commercial and event-related activities is the only logical outcome, as seen by reactions from across football.
