Asked whether he believed it was the current administration that introduced politics into security matters, Daura dismissed the suggestion, saying the trend started before the present government came into office.
Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura, has declared that the politicisation of security operations is one of the major reasons for the country's worsening insecurity, claiming that Nigeria's security architecture was insulated from political interference throughout his tenure.
Daura, who headed the DSS during the early years of the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, said the country's security situation deteriorated after politics was allowed to influence security decisions following his departure from office.
Speaking in the Hausa during an interview with JBC Hausa, monitored by SaharaReporters, the former DSS chief maintained that no country that permits politics to interfere with security affairs can achieve lasting peace.
"Politics has entered the security sector. Any country in the world that allows politics to interfere with security will never enjoy lasting peace," Daura said.
