The radical left has scored another electoral victory in the United States – after progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed narrowly won the Democratic Senate primary race in Michigan, with the narrowest of margins over his moderate rival Haley Stevens.
After a highly contentious race, Mr El-Sayed will now have to prove he can unite the party behind his bid to win the state from the Republicans in November.
