Common pet flea treatment ‘should be banned’ due to environment concerns

A House of Lords committee is urging the government to ban pet flea and tick treatments from general sale, after an inquiry raised fears about their impact on rivers and waterways.

With around twenty million cats and dogs in the UK, scientists say the chemicals in ‘spot on’ parasite treatments are making their way into waterways across the UK, where they could be causing widespread harm to ecosystems.
