The Senate Committee on Customs has commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for generating more than N7.3 trillion in revenue in 2025, surpassing its annual target of N6.5 trillion, while pledging stronger legislative support to sustain the Service’s ongoing reforms, modernisation drive and trade facilitation efforts.
This came on Wednesday during a retreat organised for members of the Senate Committee on Customs in Abuja with the theme, “Legislative Oversight in the Context of NCS Modernisation and Reforms.”
The retreat brought together lawmakers and senior officials of the Customs Service to strengthen collaboration and deepen lawmakers’ understanding of the agency’s reform agenda.
Speaking at the opening of the retreat, Jibrin Isah, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, described the revenue performance of the Service under the leadership of Bashir Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of Customs, as a remarkable achievement that reflects the success of ongoing reforms.
According to him, the Nigeria Customs Service has demonstrated significant progress not only in revenue generation but also in trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations.
