Chipotle has removed some jalapeños from specific stores following a Salmonella outbreak in Minnesota, which the brand said impacted multiple foodservice operators, according to a Tuesday press release.
The Minnesota Department of Health said it was “currently investigating a Salmonella Javiana outbreak associated with Mexican-style quick-service restaurants. Jalapeños are suspected as the vehicle.”
The burrito brand said it proactively and voluntarily removed potentially contaminated jalapeños.
“Upon learning of a potential outbreak, we immediately initiated our ingredient traceability system and were able to identify jalapeños as a potential common ingredient from a common lot,” Chipotle said. The brand removed the potentially contaminated ingredients from the stores to which they had been distributed and replaced them with products from different suppliers.
