Dr. Ryo Hamanaka, Universal Orthodontic Lab Chief Clinical Officer, Invited to Present on Knowledge Examination Development for Clear Aligner Certification at ABAO Forum 2026
Contribution to multiple-choice CBT development supports ongoing efforts to establish competency standards in aligner orthodontics
Universal Orthodontic Lab announced today that Dr. Ryo Hamanaka, Chief Clinical Officer and Head of the Experimental Applications Group, has been invited by the Association for the Board of Aligner Orthodontics to present at the ABAO Forum 2026.
Dr. Hamanaka will discuss his contribution to the multiple-choice, computer-based knowledge examination component of ABAO’s clear aligner certification process. Drawing on his own clinical, academic, and technical expertise, he coordinated the development and compilation of examination questions and led the development of the computer-based testing system.
His August 8, 2026 presentation will address the examination’s conceptual framework, development of its computer-based testing platform, the process used to develop and coordinate multiple-choice examination questions, evaluation criteria, and the role of foundational knowledge assessment in clear aligner certification. Dr. Hamanaka will explain how the knowledge examination was designed and how it evaluates the knowledge and competencies expected of candidates.
