Abdul El-Sayed’s speech Wednesday morning after he was declared the winner of Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary was more geared toward party unity and reaching out to supporters of his opponent, Haley Stevens, than the one he delivered at his campaign party late Tuesday night. He ended his remarks on Wednesday on lofty terms, saying the race is about “who we are as a country” and saying, “My story in America is about as unlikely as it gets.”
