Hyderabad City SHE Teams caught 678 people for allegedly harassing women and engaging in other forms of misconduct during the Bonalu festivities this year. Teams were deployed at temples, procession routes, bus stops, Metro stations, marketplaces and other crowded locations during the festival. Personnel carried out surveillance in plain clothes, monitored vulnerable locations and intervened when incidents of harassment were detected. During the Bonalu bandobust, SHE Teams received 122 complaints under various categories. Police said 678 people involved in harassment, eve-teasing, stalking, inappropriate behaviour and other acts of misconduct against women were caught red-handed. Videographic evidence was collected in several cases.Police said 25 respondents were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment along with fines by courts. Another 13 cases investigated by SHE Teams also resulted in convictions following investigation and legal proceedings.The accused were apprehended and petty cases were registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Hyderabad City Police Act. Of those produced before courts, 11 were sentenced to up to 3 days of simple imprisonment and fined ₹1,050 each. Another 26 were convicted in petty cases and fined ₹1,050 each, besides being ordered to perform community service.Incidents of harassment or other emergencies can be reported by dialling 100 or 112.
