The New York Film Festival has announced the 32-film main slate for its 64th edition, anchored by four world premieres: centerpiece selection “Behemoth!” from writer and director Tony Gilroy; closing night selection “14th,” the new documentary feature from Ava DuVernay; “I Deserve a Lover Whose Every Rise Sets Fiery Dooms Raging Across the Skies” from Iranian filmmaker Mani Haghighi, and recently announced monster epic “Godzilla Minus Zero” from Takashi Yamazaki.
The lineup leans heavily on Cannes titles, drawing breakouts including Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s French-language drama “All of a Sudden,” Arie Esiri and Chuko Esiri’s “Mrs. Dalloway” reimagining “Clarissa,” Paweł Pawlikowski’s monochrome postwar drama “Fatherland” and the Grand Prix winner “Minotaur” from Andrey Zvyagintsev.
Also among the buzzy movies screening in the Big Apple are Andrew Haigh’s 1950s drama “A Long Winter,” Chris Rock’s Hollywood drama “Misty Green,” which marks his return behind the camera, Mike Leigh’s likely final movie “Tender Loving Care,” Lee Chang-dong’s South Korean drama “Possible Love,” Pedro Almodóvar’s meta-cinematic “Bitter Christmas” and Ira Sachs’ 1980s New York story “The Man I Love” with Rami Malek.
