Zee Entertainment has acquired exclusive broadcast and digital rights for a third football property 'Serie A' Italian football leagues for the South Asian region over the next five years.The acquisition which includes the Cup competitions ‘Coppa Italia’ and ‘Supercoppa Italiana’ pertain to countries like India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Maldives. Starting August 22, the matches will be streamed on Zee's digital platform Zee 5 and across the Unite8 Sports channels.Commenting on the acquisition, Bavesh Janavlekar, Chief Business Officer – Unite8 Sports, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. said, “As one of the most respected leagues in football, ‘Serie A’ brings together iconic clubs and talent that have captivated generations of fans. As a result, Zee is trying to become the home of football just as Jio is trying to be the home of cricket."The acquisitions do not compare to rights like those of cricket," said the expert, who wished to remain anonymous.Meanwhile, Ajimon Francis, Managing Director at Brand Finance said, "Zee is in an investment stage to have sufficient content on sports, else those who signed up for FIFA will drop off from their subscription list.
