Bengaluru: Karnataka plans to prepare a document to chart the future direction of nanotechnology in the state over the next 10 to 20 years, state nanotechnology advisory body Vision Group chairperson Dr Navakanta Bhat said on Wednesday.The roadmap will bring together academia, industry, startups and government to identify priorities for research, innovation and commercialisation, the IT/BT department said in a statement.Also Read: Karnataka to focus on nanotech, AI, semiconductors for growth: Chief minister DK ShivakumarThe initiative has been undertaken at the direction of Karnataka IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, Bhat said in the statement. The Vision Group will consult researchers, startups, industry leaders and other stakeholders while preparing the document and has invited suggestions from across the ecosystem.The IT/BT department supports more than 100 research and development projects every year. He also said the state government’s ELEVATE programme, which provides grants to startups.The announcement comes at the 14th edition of Nano summit concluded after three days of discussions on nanotechnology, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.The event, organised by the Department of Science & Technology, Karnataka Science & Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), brought together researchers, scientists, academicians, industry representatives, policymakers, startups and students.Also Read: Bengaluru INDIA NANO 2026 to spotlight AI-nanotech convergence, commercialisationHeld around the theme “Nanotech's Next Frontier: AI & Beyond -- Conceive, Converge, Commercialize,” the conference discussed applications of nanotechnology in areas including semiconductors, healthcare, agriculture, energy and environment.The event saw participation from 3,210 people, including 991 delegates. It featured 30 sessions with 67 speakers, 51 exhibitors and 154 posters, and attracted 1,436 business visitors.The conference also featured sessions on areas including nano in semiconductors, nano in agriculture and health, and nano in energy and environment.Bhat also announced the 15th edition of Bengaluru Nano summit to be held from August 2028.
