Jonny Greenwood, Alexandre Desplat and Hildur Guðnadóttir are among the nominees for Film Composer of the Year at the 26th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, which takes place on Oct. 10.
Greenwood, Radiohead’s lead guitarist, was the composer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another.” His film scoring career has been defined by “tension-filled orchestrations” for “Phantom Thread” and “The Power of the Dog,” the event said. For “One Battle After Another,” he channeled that signature style into a “nerve-shredding” score.
Desplat, a two-time Oscar-winner, reinvented iconic John Williams motifs into a “thrilling action score” for “Jurassic World Rebirth,” crafted a “lyrical” symphonic score for Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” and “elevated” “L’homme qui rétrécit” with “haunting, suspenseful jazz,” the WSA said in a statement.
Academy Award-winner Guðnadóttir, this year’s WSA guest of honor, is celebrated for her “atmospheric soundscapes” for projects like “Joker” and “Chernobyl.” Her nomination reflects her versatility, from the gothic punk score for “The Bride!,” to the jazzy vocal tracks for “Hedda,” and the raging mammoth horn solos from “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.”
