China Unicom has landed a new subsea cable in Hong Kong.
The telco landed the SHV-HK submarine cable at its Hong Kong Tseung Kwan O L2 cable landing station (CLS). The system is set to connect it to Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
The cable, which was successfully landed at the end of last month, will be the first submarine cable directly connecting Hong Kong and Cambodia. SHV-HK is almost 3,000km (3,280 ft) long and has a total designed capacity of 80Tbps.
The new connection is part of Unicom’s “two horizontal and four vertical” integrated land and sea network, aiming to connect China to ASEAN, and builds on a cooperation agreement signed by China and Cambodia in October 2023.
