Dr Nora Saneka
The Active Citizens Movement (ACM) shared its organisation's views on honouring Babita Deokaran and other whistle-blowers, and protection for those opposed to corruption. Their chairperson Dr Nora Saneka, will be a speaker at Deokaran's monument unveiling on August 9.
The ACM notes the decision by the Mount Edgecombe Arts and Cultural Council to honour Babita Deokaran.
We will reflect on Babita’s legacy and what it means for future generations as we believe her story carries important lessons about courage, integrity, and the cost of standing up for what is right.
Any person or organisation that invokes Babita’s name carries the weight of her ethical example, as we also aspire to do. Therefore, we hope that the conduct of such organisations or people is beyond reproach at all times, and they must be prepared to be held accountable if they fall short.
