Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A Russian airborne assault targeting civilian commerce and infrastructure in Ukraine's Kyiv region in the early hours of Wednesday killed at least 15 people and injured 48, Ukrainian authorities said.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration for the region, said Brovary district, east of Kyiv, was worst hit with nine killed and 12 injured. Four others were killed and seven injured in Bucha and one person was killed and three were injured in Fastiv district, 50 miles southeast of Kyiv.
In an update on his official account on Telegram, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least one person had been killed in the capital and 26 injured, 16 of whom were being treated in area hospitals.
The State Emergency Service said in an online update that rescuers were combing the rubble of bombed-out buildings for survivors at five sites in Kyiv's Brovary district and put out a fire in one location, while in the Bucha district they were battling a blaze at a warehouse.
