CLEVELAND — Maybe it was the Insomnia Cookies that propelled the Cleveland Guardians’ front office to the finish line Monday. A member of the Los Angeles Angels’ front office was calling to relay the news they were trading him to the Guardians.“I was good with leaving early,” Adell said of ending his round. “I wasn’t shooting very well.”Cleveland’s front office has coveted Adell since he was a teenage top prospect, but the Angels always rebuffed their proposals. Adell heard his name in the rumor mill last summer, but the Angels didn’t move him. This time, he figured he would be dealt, especially once interim general manager John Mozeliak traded catcher Logan O’Hoppe, reliever Chase Silseth and pitcher José Soriano.“It was kind of obvious that they were going to start over,” Adell said.He hopped on a flight to Cleveland on Monday evening.“It’s really cool to be wanted,” he said.Adell leaves behind the wreckage of an Angels team in sore need of a rebuild. He said he could sense the intensity of a playoff race as soon as he entered the Guardians’ clubhouse Tuesday.Fittingly, the Guardians faced a left-handed starter Tuesday in Cleveland, so there was Adell, the lefty masher, batting second against the New York Mets in his Guardians debut. He ditched the short game and instead drove the ball to left field for a single and a ball to center field for a double in his first two at-bats.
