RUSA officers with the accused
A criminal case against a 54-year-old man accused of robbing a 66-year-old grandmother he met through a dating application has been withdrawn after she accepted R4,000 in financial compensation through an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process.
Salim Ismail was due to appear in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Friday, July 31, but the trial was halted after the settlement was reached.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said its officers had attended court after being subpoenaed to testify.
According to the organisation, the grandmother accepted the money from Ismail before the proceedings began. The investigating officer subsequently processed the withdrawal of the criminal case, bringing the matter to an end.
