Good thing Kevin Costner is not a chair — or else he would’ve gotten a mouthful. On Monday’s episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Clint Eastwood’s son, actor Scott Eastwood, recalled a “legendary” story about his father putting Costner in his place while he was directing the “Yellowstone” star in 1993’s “A Perfect World.”Kevin Costner and Clint Eastwood.Getty“I heard a legendary story and I’m sort of going to paraphrase it, and I’ll probably tell it a little wrong,” Scott Eastwood told Shepard. “But Kevin Costner, sort of going through maybe, you know, the Kevin Costner rise to fame and maybe got a big ego, you know, blah blah blah. But they were doing ‘A Perfect World’ …and apparently Kevin wouldn’t come out of his trailer for some reason.”Eastwood made it a point to add that his dad “doesn’t do trailers and things” and prefers to “just be on set.”“He always told me [that] as a kid. ‘You want to learn how to make movies? You want to learn how to do this? You stay here with everybody else and you make the damn movie,’” he noted.Scott Eastwood attends the world premiere of “1992” at Regal LA Live on Aug. 27, 2024, in Los Angeles, California.Amy Sussman via Getty ImagesYet, instead of yelling at Costner to come out of his trailer and do the scene he was in, the “Unforgiven” director passed along five simple words.“So he just said, ‘Well, send him home then,’” Scott Eastwood recalled.“I guess they just went to Kevin and said, ‘Hey, you’re going to go home for the day,’” he recounted. “He said, ‘What do you mean? I’m in the scene’ [And the crew said], ‘Well, I guess you’re not anymore.’”The move apparently made an impact.“And so I think the next day, [Costner] was on set ready to go,” Scott Eastwood said.HuffPost reached out to Costner for comment, but did not receive an immediate response. The “Dirty Harry” star’s stern, pragmatic style seems to have extended into his parenting, too. Scott Eastwood admitted in 2015 that he didn’t exactly reap the benefits of having an uber-famous and wealthy father.“My dad was pretty old school,” Eastwood told People at the time. “I’ve had a job since I can remember and it’s not like he was like, ‘Hey, what kind of car do you want?’ My first car was a ’91 Ford Crown Victoria that was $1,000. And I had to buy every car after that. I had to do it all.”
