Shanghai-based MiniMax Group has issued a major new release of its AI video-generation platform under an open-weight licence – but the licence specifically excludes major markets, including the US, the UK, the EU and South Korea.
The move indicates the evolving copyright complexities around AI video generation, with MiniMax directly targeted for legal action by Hollywood studios.
Under the company’s licence, users can download, modify and run the new H3 video-generation model on local hardware, but those in the excluded markets must first apply for a formal licence.
