Mauritian jockey Bavish Soodoo makes progress after critical injuries in SA race

A YOUNG apprentice jockey, who was thrown off his horse in an accident at Fairview Racecourse in Gqeberha on Friday, is recovering and expected to be moved out of the critical care unit soon.

According to South African Horse Racing (SA Horseracing), Mauritian-born rider Bavish Soodoo "suffered significant injuries" when his mount, Ravilious, broke down shortly after finishing second in Race 4.

Soodoo was thrown from the horse after it stumbled and subsequently fell on him.

Ravilious was later euthanised because of its injuries.
