The Army awarded a contract for hybrid autonomous trucks that will move supplies for company-sized units and keep soldiers off dangerous routes.
The Army has awarded an 18-month contract to American Rheinmetall under Project Sustainment that will field hybrid-powered autonomous trucks to move supplies for company-sized units, keeping soldiers off some of the most dangerous resupply routes in contested environments. Executed through the National Advanced Mobility Consortium, the award makes American Rheinmetall the prime contractor to deliver next-generation uncrewed ground vehicles. These platforms are designed to autonomously transport supplies to and from the forward line of troops, cutting risk to soldiers while improving the efficiency of tactical sustainment. “This award expands American Rheinmetall’s growing portfolio of uncrewed ground systems within the U.S. market and reinforces our position as a leader in ground robotics and autonomous technologies,” said Jim Schirmer, vice president of sales and marketing for American Rheinmetall.
Project Sustainment directly supports the Army’s modernization priorities by delivering autonomous load-handling and transport capabilities that increase readiness and reduce the burden on Soldiers.
