A new preliminary agreement is being drafted to prioritise reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with indirect talks described as being in an "advanced stage".

Pakistan is acting as mediator, exchanging messages between Washington and Tehran as both sides work towards a potential deal.

A previous preliminary agreement reached in mid-June collapsed after Iran attacked oil tankers in and around the strait, reigniting hostilities.

Iran has denied holding direct talks with the US, with an IRGC-affiliated outlet blaming Mr Trump's threats for slowing progress.
