Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has launched a fresh attack on Rotimi Amaechi, describing the former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate as a political liability who lacks the electoral strength to deliver Rivers State or the South-South region in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike also declared that President Bola Tinubu remains the only presidential candidate capable of winning Rivers State in 2027, urging political observers to discount any calculations that suggest otherwise.
“If anybody is counting Rivers, go now and cancel it. The only person that can count Rivers is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I am talking as a political realist because I know my people,” Wike said.
Questioning Amaechi’s emergence as the ADC vice-presidential candidate, Wike argued that the former Rivers governor had repeatedly failed to deliver electoral victories despite occupying strategic political positions.
“He has never won a presidential election after 2011 when I was the Director of Campaign. He was Buhari’s Director-General in 2015 while serving as governor, yet he could not secure 25%. In 2019, he was again DG and a super minister but still failed. In 2023, he backed Atiku Abubakar and couldn’t deliver even 15%,” he said.
