The Director General of Prosecution (DGP) has ordered a fresh departmental inquiry into the death of S. Aneeshya, who had served as Assistant Public Prosecutor at the Paravur Munsiff Magistrate Court in Kollam, Kerala.DGP T. Asaf Ali has formally tasked the Director of Prosecution with conducting a thorough probe to identify any official lapses or departmental failures that may have contributed to her death. The order instructs the investigating authority to submit a comprehensive report as expeditiously as possible.The direction is based on a petition submitted by Aneeshya’s parents, Prasanna P.M. and Satyadevan. Aneeshya purportedly took her life on January 21, 2024, leaving behind a note and audio messages that allegedly detailed the severe workplace harassment and mental torture she faced from her colleagues and superiors.In their petition, the parents also highlighted severe lapses and bias in the initial departmental inquiry.According to the parents’ complaint, the primary inquiry officer, identified as Sheeba, held the exact same official rank and cadre as one of the accused officials. The purported conflict of interest resulted in an investigation designed to shield colleagues rather than uncover the truth, they alleged. Besides, the initial inquiry reportedly failed to examine crucial primary evidence, including Aneeshya’s handwritten note and her recorded voice messages, despite there being clear instructions to consider all available materials. The complaint added that the investigating officer “deliberately” refrained from collecting statements even from official sources who proactively offered relevant testimony. The parents also asserted that the “flawed” report magnified facts that were favourable to the accused, while disregarding mounting evidence of workplace torture.
