According to the EFCC, Anoruo admitted during interrogation that he obtained the counterfeit NBA seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced a 55-year-old man, John Nwawuto Anoruo, for impersonating a legal practitioner and using a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal to carry out legal activities, after he admitted that he was never called to the Nigerian Bar.
Justice A.M. Lawal delivered the judgment on Tuesday, convicting Anoruo on two counts bordering on impersonation and possession and use of a counterfeit NBA seal before imposing a total fine of N270,000 and ordering the forfeiture of the fake legal items recovered from him to the Federal Government through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
According to the EFCC, Anoruo, who operates a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, was arrested by operatives of the anti-graft agency on April 20, 2026, following investigations into allegations that he falsely presented himself as a qualified legal practitioner.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that the case originated after Anoruo submitted a petition dated September 22, 2025, to the EFCC on behalf of some clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.
