MetService meteorologist John Law told the Herald tonight would be chilly but it was likely to be even colder on Thursday night, particularly for places such as
AdvertisementAdvertise with NZME.
MetService says it's been one of the coldest mornings of the year and it's set to continue for the next two days.
Conditions will be colder than usual as a chilly southerly spreads across the country.
Incoming chill will be notable even by midwinter standards, MetService says.
It will be a chilly start again tomorrow for parts of country.
Clyde and Alexandra also froze, hitting -6.9C and -6.4C respectively.
Recent low temperatures have pushed electricity demand to record levels.
