The Roman philosopher Seneca once wrote, “It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.” Though these words were written nearly two thousand years ago, they remain surprisingly relevant today.
Whether it is starting a new career, pursuing a dream, speaking up for ourselves, or making a major life change, many of the challenges we face seem overwhelming, not because they are impossible, but because fear prevents us from taking the first step.
This quote challenges a common assumption.
Most people believe they avoid certain actions because those actions are difficult.
Seneca reverses that logic.
