Republicans see Kansas as perhaps their best chance this year to flip a governorship held by Democrats. Ty Masterson, the president of the State Senate, was endorsed by President Trump. Philip Sarnecki, a businessman, and Secretary of State Scott Schwab are also looking to win conservative primary voters. Vicki Schmidt, the state’s insurance commissioner, has staked out a moderate lane.
Kansas Democrats hope to hold the governor’s office in what promises to be a difficult general election race. Primary voters have a choice of three experienced politicians, all from suburban Kansas City. State Senator Ethan Corson was endorsed by Gov. Laura Kelly, a moderate Democrat who was barred by term limits from running again. Mr. Corson faces State Senator Cindy Holscher, who has called for a moratorium on data centers, and Mayor Curt Skoog of Overland Park.

The Democratic Socialists of America, the country’s largest socialist organization, has emerged as an influential force in some key Democratic primaries this year. This is a big night for the D.S.A., which is hoping to add two more democratic socialists — Donavan McKinney of Michigan and Cori Bush of Missouri — to its growing cohort of House members. Both candidates are trying to oust Democratic incumbents by running to their left.
