BACOLOD CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines — Negros Occidental has intensified efforts to contain the spread of red-striped soft scale insects (RSSI) by deploying pathogenic fungi on more than 77 hectares of sugarcane fields affected by low to moderate infestations.
Engr. Colen Ocalinas, action officer of the Provincial Biosecurity Task Force, said at a press briefing on Tuesday (Aug. 4), that the spraying operations in Bago City, La Carlota City, and Murcia have so far covered about 5 percent of the target areas classified under Level 1 and Level 2 infestations.
Ocalinas said the next areas scheduled for spraying are the towns of Ilog, Hinigaran, and Manapla.
She added that mapping operations are continuing to identify sugarcane farms affected by Level 1 and Level 2 RSSI infestations.
