LONDON: Authorities in the Syrian Arab Republic cleared the marks of civil war and rehabilitated 80 km of roads and highways in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
Since early July, authorities have reopened roads and removed mounds of dirt and military trenches in the countryside to facilitate farmers’ return to their lands and enhance connections between villages and towns, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
Aleppo and its countryside were among the areas brutally contested by the Assad regime’s forces and armed rebels during the civil war from 2011 to 2024. The region hosts vital motorways connecting Syria’s east and west via the M4, as well as north and south through the M5.
Aleppo Governorate plans to rehabilitate another 120 km of roads in the region. Teams from the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, along with the Ministry of Defense, are taking part in the nationwide project, which also includes other regions of the country, such as Daraa in the south.
