TVTV NewsBeyond ParadiseDeath in Paradise and Father Brown fans are being urged to tune into this “excellent” alternative.Hayley Anderson Screen Time TV Reporter20:01, 04 Aug 2026A “good old British detective show” has made a comeback and it stars a former Death in Paradise star.‌BBC ’s Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise are both currently on hiatus with news that Kris Marshall and the team have resumed filming in Cornwall for season five.‌But while fans impatiently wait for their return, there is another “quirky” detective drama that’s made a comeback for its fourth season.‌The Chelsea Detective has returned with DI Max Arnold and DS Lavia Walsh back to investigate the dark secrets and murders of London’s affluent Chelsea.Starring as DI Max Arnold, a grounded detective who lives on a battered houseboat on the River Thames, is none other than actor Adrian Scarborough.‌Fans will best recognise Scarborough from hits such as Vera Drake, Gosford Park, the Harry Potter franchise and Killing Eve, just to name a few.But the 58-year-old star is probably best remembered for portraying Pete Sutcliffe in the iconic BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey on-and-off for 17 years.Scarborough is joined by Dublin Murders’ Vanessa Emme as DS Layla Walsh, Temple actress Anamaria Marinca as Astrid Fischer and DI Ray’s Peter Bankole as DC Connor Pollock.‌He has also previously featured in a 2014 episode of Death in Paradise, taking on the role of murder suspect and art gallery owner Leo Pascal.The Chelsea Detective season four dropped its first of four feature-length episodes on Monday, August 3, on Acorn TV, with the rest of the series coming out weekly.‌While some fans have labelled The Chelsea Detective “quirky” and “a gem” on IMdB, another said: “It's definitely a binge watcher.
