Ukraine carried out a large-scale drone attack on Russia overnight on August 4, reportedly targeting logistics facilities, including warehouses belonging to major online retailer Wildberries, as well as energy infrastructure.
Videos and photos shared by local residents appeared to show heavy black smoke rising from a Wildberries logistics center in the city of Chekhov in Moscow Oblast, around 65 kilometers south of Moscow. Local reports said Ukrainian drones had been seen flying over the area before the strike.
Moscow Oblast Governor Andrey Vorobyov said several drone attacks were recorded in the Novosyolki industrial zone in the Chekhov district. He claimed that five people were killed and six others injured in the attack.
Later, smoke was also reported at a Wildberries warehouse in Krasny Bor in Leningrad Oblast, about 33 kilometers southeast of St. Petersburg. Regional Governor Alexander Drozdenko confirmed that drones had struck an unspecified warehouse in the area, while Wildberries also confirmed that one of its facilities had been hit.
The areas around Moscow and St. Petersburg have traditionally been heavily protected by Russian air defenses and have rarely been targeted during the full-scale war. However, Ukrainian drone technology has increasingly allowed attacks to penetrate deeper into Russian territory, including against targets near major cities.
