George Wood / Getty ImagesAug. 4, 2026 Updated 1:07 pm EDTIpswich Town have completed the signing of midfielder Florentino Luis from Burnley.The deal consists of an initial fee of £16million, plus £3m in add-ons.Florentino, 26, has joined on a five-year deal that runs through to 2031.The former Portugal youth international adds depth to Ipswich’s midfield, after Jens Cajuste and Dan Neil’s loan deals concluded at the end of last season. Midfielders Azor Matusiwa and Jack Taylor also both underwent surgery on respective muscle and knee injuries following the 2025-26 campaign and are yet to feature in pre-season.“How the club is thinking to the long-term is one of the main reasons I came here,” Florentino said in an official club statement.
“I can bring experience and balance to the team, between defence and attack, and I like to bring the connection.”Florentino joined Burnley from Benfica, initially on loan, in the summer of 2025, before the deal was made permanent in June. He won two Primeira Liga titles with Benfica, and also had loan spells at Monaco and Getafe,He made 31 Premier League appearances last season as Burnley were relegated from the top flight.Ipswich won promotion from the Championship in 2025-26, returning to the top flight at the first time of asking following their relegation the previous campaign.Head coach Kieran McKenna departed the club at the end of the season, with Gary O’Neil appointed his successor.
