It soon emerged that they had been poisoned with a military-grade nerve agent which had been applied to their home’s front door handle.‌They, along with police officer Nick Bailey, survived after critical care but a couple of months later, British national Dawn Sturgess died after handling a discarded perfume container used for the poison. The Sky true crime doc delves into the events surrounding these incidents with the chemical weapon and how it triggered an “international diplomatic crisis”. It also explores the “hidden espionage war it triggered between Russia and the West.”‌The Salisbury Poisonings: A Spy Next Door features a number of high profile individuals who were involved at time, including police officer Neil Basu, former Minister for Women and Equalities Amber Rudd and ex-Head of the Home Civil Service Mark Sedwil.Former Prime Minister Theresa May, who served for three years in Downing Street, also gives an exclusive interview in the documentary.‌The trailer for the feature film shows May stating: “Russia had been responsible for this”, before showing an image of Russian President Vladimir Putin.Another said: “There were people who thought we should treat this attack as an act of war.” Someone else then disturbingly remarked: “There was enough poison in that bottle to kill 10,000 people.
