With operations at the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, Bhogapuram, set to commence soon, a special job fair was organised on Tuesday for contract employees who were previously engaged at the Visakhapatnam airport. The initiative was taken by Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat to provide alternative employment opportunities to the affected workers.As many as 450 candidates participated in the job fair. Of them, 100 secured employment offers from various organisations, while 150 were shortlisted for final interviews. The recruitment drive covered opportunities across sectors such as hospitality, housekeeping, facility management, retail, electrical, information technology, civil engineering, customer service, administration, driving, technical services, culinary, guest relations, and supervisory and managerial roles.A total of 36 companies participated in the recruitment drive and conducted interviews. The job fair was inaugurated by Airport Director, Airports Authority of India, Visakhapatnam Airport, N. Purushottam.The organisers said details of candidates who were not selected during the recruitment drive would be maintained with the support of the Airports Authority of India and shared with industries and companies across Visakhapatnam to facilitate future employment opportunities. They added that another special job fair would be organised, if required.Speaking on the occasion, Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) Board Director and Airport Advisory Committee member G. Venkata Krishna said the recruitment process was conducted in a transparent manner.He recalled that at the Airport Advisory Committee meeting held on July 9, Mr. Sribharat had raised the concerns of the contract employees and assured them that every effort would be made to facilitate alternative employment opportunities.
