LONDON: Israeli forces across July arrested 630 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem during multiple raids, including children, women and former prisoners.
Some of the detainees were later released, according to a report by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society on Tuesday. The group recorded the detention of 25,000 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem since late 2023, without specifying how many were later released.
“The detention campaigns have been accompanied by escalating crimes and violations, including field interrogations, violent nighttime raids on homes, systematic destruction of property, and assaults against detainees and their families through beatings, threats and humiliation,” the report said.
As of July, there are 9,400 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, including 370 children and 92 women, while the number of administrative detainees has reached 3,198. About 1,358 detainees are from the Gaza Strip. Israel occupied 70 percent of the coastal territory after October 2023.
Since the 1967 occupation of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, more than 800,000 Palestinians have spent time in Israeli jails, according to a 2023 UN report.
