The European Union (EU) might be forcing Apple’s hand once again, and this time that means you may, at some point in the future, be able to copy and paste things from your iPhone to Windows. According to MacRumors, Apple proposed supporting copy and paste between iOS and Windows in June, following Microsoft’s interoperability request in March. As Microsoft sees it, copy and paste could be used to transfer text and other supported content from an iPhone to a Windows PC, and vice versa, without requiring everyone to download a special app or use some cumbersome workaround. Basically, you know… normal copying and pasting. The thing folks who are all in on Apple can already do between their iPhone and their Mac. MacRumors says that, under Apple’s proposed plan, the implementation could be similar to how Accessory Notifications work in iOS 26.5, which supports third-party wearables. Users would need to grant their iPhone permission to copy and paste to their PC once, and then they would be good to go.
For context, this would be drastically different (read: much easier) than how things currently work. As it stands, there is no native support for copy and paste between the two platforms. If you really want to transfer text, you could go through the arduous process of syncing an Apple Note and then opening it on the web on your Windows PC, or something. Or, you could just give up and email the text to yourself, as most people do.
