Mykhailo Mudryk was the name on everybody’s lips on Tuesday, 24 hours before Chelsea’s clash with Juventus in the second and final match of the 2026 Hong Kong Football Festival.Signed for a deal worth up to £89 million (about US$120 million) in January 2023, Mudryk was this week cleared to return to action, having been banned since November 2024 after returning an “adverse finding” for meldonium.Although the Ukrainian has recognised that he breached anti-doping rules, and accepted a suspension matching the 21 months he served, the Football Association said that after changes to the World Anti-Doping Agency technical document in relation to meldonium, the concentration of the banned substance in his sample would not have been reported had the test been conducted today.After arriving in Hong Kong on Monday, Mudryk trained with his teammates in an open Kai Tak Stadium session 24 hours later, when a successful shot from the 25-year-old drew one of the loudest cheers of the night.
