Qatar announced that efforts to reach a diplomatic solution between Iran and the United States remain ongoing, though no agreement has yet been reached and no direct negotiations between the two sides are scheduled.
Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters on Tuesday, August 4, that Doha’s consultations with both Iran and the U.S. are continuing. According to al-Ansari, these talks are focused on reaching a “short-term solution” to pave the way for the resumption of dialogue and the full revival of the mediation process.
Al-Ansari highlighted de-escalation, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a return to the diplomatic track as Qatar’s current priorities, emphasizing that no deal has been secured so far.
At the same time, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs held a telephone conversation with Russia’s Foreign Minister to discuss initiatives aimed at easing regional tensions.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s remarks came a day after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that negotiations with Tehran were underway, adding that Iran faces its “last chance” to reach an agreement.
